Plopli Privacy Policy

Plopli is a macOS app for organizing screenshots. Plopli collects no data. Everything the app does with your images happens on your Mac.

What Plopli processes

• Images in a folder you choose yourself. Plopli never opens your Desktop, the system screenshot folder or any location that was not chosen in the system panel first.
• Text read from images (OCR), content labels and QR or bar codes read by Apple Vision (the decoded content of a code is stored with the analysis results), and image features computed by a bundled Core ML model. All of this runs on the device, with no account and no third-party provider.
• Optionally: classification hints from Apple Intelligence (Foundation Models) if your Mac supports it (macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence). The model runs on the device; Plopli does not use Apple's cloud processing. Plopli downloads nothing by itself; the translation pack for Polish screenshots is installed by you, with your consent, through the system mechanism.

What Plopli stores and where

Inside every folder you choose, Plopli creates a hidden .screeny/ directory. It holds: a journal of file operations (paths, cryptographic hashes and states, needed for undo), remembered image analysis results (recognized text, labels, image features, code contents), remembered Apple Intelligence hints (with the quoted evidence text and its translation, if any), the approved folder structure, rules for your custom folders, the file naming rule, review decisions, the sieve archive and an empty marker of the folder’s first opening. These files are yours and stay in that folder.

App settings (for example comparison mode, window state) live in the app's own preferences on this Mac. That is also where Plopli remembers up to 8 folders you picked in the system panel, as system security-scoped bookmarks; they grant access only to those folders. You see them at the bottom of the sidebar as “Source Folders”. One folder is open at a time; each has its own .screeny/ directory and its own _POSORTOWANE folder, and files do not move between folders. By default Plopli opens the most recently used folder right away at launch; you can turn this off in Settings → Privacy → “Open the last folder at launch”. A folder that was deleted or sits on a disconnected drive stays on the list, greyed out; at launch Plopli does not mount drives or show system dialogs. Removing a folder from the list (✕ next to the folder or “Remove from List”) removes only the bookmark; the folder and its files stay on disk. “Forget All Folders” in Settings removes the whole list.

For search, Plopli keeps a local index for each folder in the list (file names, recognized text, labels, codes, tags, categories and folders) in its own container on this Mac, outside your folder, so the index does not sync with iCloud and never leaves the Mac; “Remove from List” deletes that folder's index and “Forget All Folders” deletes all of them. Plopli also adds the screenshots of the open folder to the system Spotlight index on this Mac: the file name, category and folder, tags and labels, recognized text (up to 10,000 characters) and a thumbnail up to 160 px. This is on by default; Settings → Privacy → “Show screenshots in Spotlight” turns it off and removes all Plopli entries from Spotlight, and “Remove from List” and “Forget All Folders” remove the entries of one folder or of all folders.

Everything Plopli stores is in your folders (the .screeny/ directories), in the app's preferences, in the local search index in the app's container and in Spotlight entries on this Mac. You delete the folder data by deleting the .screeny/ directories. You remove the list of remembered folders, the search indexes and the Spotlight entries with “Forget All Folders” in Settings; opening a folder again indexes it again. Deleting the app does not delete its container (~/Library/Containers/pl.jantrybus.plopli: settings, folder list, indexes), so before deleting the app use “Forget All Folders” and turn off “Show screenshots in Spotlight”, or delete that folder manually. Plopli keeps no copies.

What Plopli does not do

• It does not send images, recognized text or analysis results to any server. The app has no networking code, no telemetry, no ads and no external analytics. Its privacy manifest declares no data collected and no tracking.
• It does not delete your images without the Trash. Images rejected in review go to the system Trash only after you confirm. Images rejected by the sieve first rest in an archive inside your library and go to the Trash after at least 30 days. The one exception: undoing an import removes the copy Plopli itself created; the original stays. Plopli never empties the Trash.
• It does not touch files you did not choose. The app runs in the App Sandbox: it reads and writes files only inside the folders you pick in the system panel (including the hidden .screeny/ directory), and reads files you yourself select for import or drop onto the app icon (it copies them into the open folder; the originals stay). Outside those, it only writes the app's settings (including the list of remembered folders) and a local search index in its own container on this Mac, adds entries to Spotlight on this Mac (described above; a toggle in Settings, on by default), moves rejected files to the system Trash and copies text to the clipboard when you click a copy button.

Your boundaries

This promise covers processing by Plopli. If your folder is synced by iCloud, Dropbox or another service, that sync may also include the .screeny/ directory with stored text. If you share an image through the system Share menu, you do so knowingly and outside Plopli. Documentation links and other apps' URL schemes open only on your request.

This page

This page uses no cookies, scripts, external resources or analytics. The hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes technical connection data, such as the IP address, solely to deliver and secure the page.

Transfer to the USA: Cloudflare participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
• E-mail to support@plopli.com: the sender's address and the message content. Purpose: replying to your request. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Retention: up to 3 years after the last message. The mailbox runs on iCloud; for the EEA the service is provided by Apple Distribution International Ltd (Ireland); transfers outside the EEA rely on standard contractual clauses.
• Your rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and objection; write to support@plopli.com. You may lodge a complaint with the Polish supervisory authority, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych), ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warsaw, Poland.
• No profiling: no profiling and no automated decision-making. Providing data is voluntary; you provide it only if you write an e-mail.
• Cookies: the website uses no cookies, so it shows no consent banner.
